January 21st, 2014- Created Equal Film Series-“The Abolitionist” Part 2- 6:00pm – 8:00pm-EVPL Central Branch – Browning Event Room B.

This movie is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served!

Join the Evansville African American Museum and the Evansville Public Library for a viewing and moderated discussion of the movie “The Abolitionists” by Brittney Westbrook- EAAM curator on January 14, 2014 from 6pm-8pm and Dr. Sakina Hughes-USI on January 21, 2014 6pm-8pm. The movie will be shown in two parts with the second half shown on January 21. The film is being shown as part of the “Created Equal Film Series” sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities Bridging Cultures and the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History.

Film Description: Abolitionist allies Frederick Douglass, William Lloyd Garrison, Harriet Beecher Stowe, John Brown and Angelina Grimké turned a despised fringe movement against chattel slavery into a force that literally changed the nation.
